A couple decades ago many people were trying to make the case that religion would some day disappear as a secular era of enlightenment took over. For awhile it might have seen that in fact, those prediction seemed to be coming true.
Fast forward to 2011, and things have changed quite remarkably. Instead of religion dieing out, an ecumenical movement is rising that is working hand in hand with global politics in a desire to solve world problems. Seems like a noble goal. However this movement will in fact become the false religious system that bible prophecy tells us will exist at the time of the Antichrist. This world religious system will for a time work alongside the political/financial new world order of the Antichrist and the 10 Kingdoms that will rise up at the time of the end.
However, once the Antichrist has become entrenched and declares himself to be God in the rebuilt Jewish temple, he and his minions will destroy this Babylonian false religion. It will have served its purpose to help deceive people into accepting the rule of the Antichrist and to accept his mark.
