More Festival Follies At The Lake Okeechobee Pagan Summer Solstice Festival In Pahokee

After a soggy Thursday, the Lake Okeechobee Pagan Summer Solstice Festival rebounded on Friday for one of the most impressive festival evenings we have attended in Florida. The festival promoters are definitely "Bringing It," offering foresight of how Florida pagan festivals will be evolving in the future. Before chatting about the frivolities and fun of Thursday and Friday, I wanted to share a couple of really memorable and ironic moments.

First Ironic Festival Moment ~ Two local people talking in a restaurant. One asks the other, "Have you gotten any more business with the festival here?" The restaurant owner says, "Nah. I've only seen maybe one or two people, but not much difference at all." Here's the ironic part ~~ This was told to me by a group of six pagans sitting and eating in the restaurant overhearing the conversation.

Second Ironic Festival Moment ~ During Friday night's awesome fire service during which the Fahrenheit 360 troupe was performing followed the spoken wisdom of Fred around the huge bonfire, we all turn to see that the Fire Department was pulling up onto the levee behind us. (The site is in a long line bordering Lake Okeechobee on one side and an extreme high levee on the other side separating the lake from the Town of Pahokee.)

Everyone starts moaning and groaning thinking that now we are going to have big trouble with the Fire Department over our fire displays, which are an integral part of our religious worship at Summer Solstice. One of the festival promoters, Bruce Mullins, along with a few others, quickly ascended the levee to handle the situation while the festival goers were looking on and muttering about whether we would need to organize a formal protest against this same sort of thing we have had to occasionally encounter at other Florida festivals. Not fair. Wasn't an article just recently posted that Pahokee and the Pagans were BFF's?

Okay, here it comes. Bruce comes back down the hill and announces that the fire tender had been speaking previously with the Fire Department and that they were so impressed by how we handled bonfires and other fire workings, that they brought their firemen down to see how well it worked in action! Big sigh of relief from everyone and even more jubilation during the remainder of the evening with the firemen joining in for a few moments at our fire tender's birthday celebration. (By the way, we think firemen are very sexy and we would definitely buy their calendar if they sold it during the next festival. Just saying!)

As the firemen departed, they were greeted by whoops and hollers of appreciation ("Hail and be well, firemen. Hail and be well!) from festival goers for their understanding and support of the festival. This truly was one of those memorable moments of a memorable festival in our Florida Pagan history.

Now back to the festival follies, which is not going to be as detailed as usual as I have to head back to the festival early today for some interviews and, of course, to get lost in more festival fun this evening. (It is the last day of festival and not to be missed, you know.)

PAGAN FESTIVAL FASHION TREND ALERT ~ The Steampunk look is here. Actually, steampunk with a bit of Viking warrior blended in is hitting the festivals and EVERY fashion forward pagan simply MUST be sure to add a few pieces of steampunk.

PAGAN FESTIVAL FASHION TREND BLINK~ While I am the first to admit that platform high heels are extremely sexy, they are also extremely painful at a festival that requires a lot of walking. Just saying.

Wicked Revolution

On Thursday, the music line-up on-stage began with a performance by Mark & Holly including a very enjoyable composition by Mark entitled The Sister Song, which was dedicated, of course, to his sister. Later in the evening, another concert was held by the Whatwedo band. (Unfortunately, because of so many offerings at the festival, I was unable to catch this concert. Hugs and kisses to Whatwedo. I'll catch up with you later. Muwah!)

Friday's lineup began with Grassy Waters, a South Florida band, with a musical flavor we describe in the South as swamp music. Swamp music usually combines musical tones and rhythms found in Louisiana blues and Cajun stylings, merged with Southern rock, jazz, and blues. It's a unique Southern flavor which we adore.

Next came one of my favorite Florida performers (as well as good friend), Lord Alexian, who gave a wonderful performance (as usual) in which he engages his audience to become an actual part of the performance.

Performance Art at Wicked Revolution's Concert

The evening concluded with a performance by Wicked Revolution, which included performance art of shadowed dancers and fire dancers during the show. After enjoying Lord Alexian's concert and then Wicked Revolution, we can easily see that pagan music performances are beginning to evolve into more than just the musicians. We are beginning to reach into performance art along with musical presentation. More about pagan music trends later.

As for shopping, because we do love to shop, the vendors were able to regain their stride after Thursday's dousing and vendors' row was the place to be yesterday. Love the vendors. When looking for a particular item, I always try to go to our vendors first and their on-line pagan stores before going to other on-line shopping venues whenever possible. Supporting our Community is important!

Dark Souls 2 Guide To Creating A Build

Here is a guide that will help you with creating a good build in Dark Souls 2. Thanks to Nitos for the guide.

* STEP 2 - Place points to reach the minimum requirements of that weapon. If you want to power stance it you will need 1.5 the requirements.
* STEP 3 - Choose an Infuse. You do this by deciding what kind of build you want to have. Quality build - No infuse, Faith - Lightning, Magic - Magic. Then you can build around Dark or Fire. Also there is Mundane. Poison and Bleed are for Dex and require special builds. Not for beginners. I don't consider Raw or Enchanted worth mentioning, however in rare occasions they do have their uses.
* STEP 4 - Find the Soft and Hard caps of said Infuse. If you are playing with the scaling of the weapon, B and A scaling gets more damage from 30-40 points than anything lower. Magic and Faith get more points from 30-40 as well. Dark drops off after 30 points in Int and Faith. Fire is a total combined value between int OR faith of 60, meaning you can have 40 faith and 20 int or 60 int and 0 faith. You will want to reach that cap, so if you choose to do a dark build you will want to have at least 30 in Faith and Int.
* STEP 5 - Adaptability, this stat is very important I recommend 38 on pvp but never any less than 20. If you are a spell caster you will want to shoot for 108 agility, which you can reach through a combination of attunement and adapt. People who say agility doesn't do anything are actually sons of the devil trying to get you killed.
* STEP 6 - Vigor/Endurance/Vitality - Endurance you will always want a minimum of 20, more depends on your weapon, see how much stamina it takes for different swings and try to get 1 more stamina than a swing so you can roll away. Every point after 20 adds 1 stamina. Vitality, depends on your armor. If you choose Havel's.... everything else have enough Vitality to wield your gear under 69%. I prefer to keep around 30-40%. I also like using multiple weapons so I have more vitality than vigor. Vigor is health, dump your remaining points here.

NOTE: You can cast weapon enchants and infuse weapons for extra damage. People cannot help but smile at spontaneous outbursts of happiness.

This may be true, but we cannot force anyone to be happy. Even though we wish them well, we will encounter certain limits because we are dealing with another living person with different perspectives and life experiences. For them to adopt our views, there must be some congruency or else some willingness of the other to embrace our views.

Here is where truth has suffered greatly. Many religions have made the mistake of being "overzealous." Convinced of their own truths and that these would be beneficial for all of humanity, they become too aggressive in their approach. And nothing good can come out of this violence.

Truth is an inner state of mind and is not just about appearance. For instance, people can be outwardly compliant Catholics, but inside they have quite other beliefs and thoughts. A religion that does not enter into the inner recesses of the person is nothing but make-believe and appearance and the "truth" is nothing but shallow water.

So how can we get others to accept our version of the truth? First of all, we need to be open-minded and tolerant. If somebody starts off ridiculing my belief system, no matter whether it is flawed or not, I will not seriously listen to them. Their attitude makes me want to close off or even end the conversation there. No truth can be transmitted in such a way regardless of its validity. But if the person begins by patiently making me see my own flaws in my system only then is a true conversion possible.

A good way to convince others is to give them examples or role models. It is to entice their curiosity the same way a parent manages to instill curiosity and inner drive within their children. If you want them to read, take a book, sit down and read quietly.

Be patient and sooner or later your child will come up to you and ask you what it is you are doing. You will explain it to him briefly and return to your book. Next time your child may ask you what it is you are doing. And you give her an answer that partly satisfies her curiosity, but equally makes her want to know more and to try it out for herself to see - or rather experience - what this activity is all about. If your child does not show interest or does not imitate you, then there is no interest in them to begin with, so no need to try to convince them of reading, and you need to move onto other things.

I use the example of children not in a condescending manner. It does not mean that the person who has the "truth" is in a superior position or has a parental role or obligation. But it shows that the method works best when we provide examples and awaken interest in others instead of shoving down the truth.

But to return to our previous example, if you are happy (and if your truth does not provide any sense of joy, I would find it rather suspect) then you will transmit more of it by demonstrating to the world what your truth does to you personally. It will come from and shine through the core of your personality.

If others come and ask you about it, you can give them the secret of your success, or you can keep them on their toes and give them hints of it by making them even more curious. Either way, at that point they would be more willing to listen to you, and you will have their full undivided attention.

So, without further ado, 5 tips for spells:

1) They don't have to rhyme - but it's nice when they do! The words are a powerful part of your spell but this is more to do with what they mean to you. The power and the magik lies within so always go for a method that you find works best, and this will only be discovered with experience. Personally, I always go for rhymes as I love the feel of the words as I say them; I think it helps to build momentum and energies and also it builds the right atmosphere. But please feel free to do it your own way.

2) Always prepare yourself so that you get into the right state of mind for performing your spell. You can incorporate some of this into the spell or ritual if you wish but otherwise spend some time meditating, listening to relaxing music or even finding clothes that always seem to charge you up with the right energy!

3) Consecrate your work space and tools. Restoring clean energies to your equipment and ridding the area you have designated to work in from negativity will mean your spell work is more efficient and you will feel more comfortable. A very simple but powerful way of doing this is smudging.

4) Don't write your spell with an aim to getting immediate results as this will often only lead to disappointment. Try to write them so that you can see things happen over a month - eg. Don't aim for Mr X to fall in love with you right now, go for a man with such and such a qualities to come to you within 3 months. Work with nature and the natural flow, don't try to bend it.

5) This possibly belongs more in tips for spells for absolute beginners so forgive me if you're more advanced than this but I found that keeping something familiar to me nearby was extremely helpful. So it may be a favourite piece of jewellery or a photo, but go for something that you find brings you comfort and makes you feel safe. Spells can feel a bit 'weird' to start with and this can help it to feel more part of you.
