The Inquisition thus began after 1200 on orders of the Church to discover the witches or heretics who were believed to be evil and against the Church. Full-fledged killing of witches was, however, recorded in the 1500s and 1600s.

The first crusade against witches was held in 1022 AD when a witch was burned to death. Witchcraft History echoes the terrible campaign against Witchcraft in Salem in 1692 in which 150 people were tried as suspects of practicing witchcraft.

People suspected as witches were usually burned at stakes, and those pleading their innocence were either stoned to death or even sometimes thrown in water to prove their innocence. Witches usually faced severe and painful deaths or punishments.

Time exists in the mind. The human organism survives by constantly considering the past, present, and future. However, much of this consideration is based on basic survival. People tend not to reflect deeply much, unless they are in a crisis state.

Many of my clients come to me when they are in a state of crisis. They have already racked their brains, trying to understand the past and figure out the future. They have already considered the insight and advice of friends, coworkers and family. Or, they are carrying something around which they feel they cannot talk to anyone about, except for me.

Being born with a natural Clairvoyant ability, I tend to see the past, present, and future as being all a part of the same landscape. Time exists in the mind. I do not feel that time exists anywhere else. Time is a circle and not a line. There is no beginning, and there is no end. However, such an abstract concept is generally unacceptable to our minds, which are based in time.

We need meaning and we create meaning. We are meaning-making machines. We look at situations and we want to know what the point is. Such is the nature of the mind.

However, fortunately we are not only the activity of our minds. We are not our thoughts. We are affected by our thoughts, but we are not our thoughts. Thoughts pass through us. Thoughts are like clouds, changing their forms, appearing and disappearing, but we are like the sky itself--unchanging.

Most human beings, however, believe the story they are in. It all seems so real. I see both the reality and the unreality of it all. And although I don't see all of the future, all of the time, I do see glimpses of it--more than most perhaps. And so when someone asks me a question about their future, the answer is often presented to me, in the mind's eye, in a very natural way. And as it turns out, after doing this for over 20 years, my psychic predictions turn out to be accurate more times than not.

I find that very often, when I tell a client during a psychic reading what their future is, they often tell me that this confirms what they were already feeling intuitively. But it helps to have someone confirm it. Other times what is revealed is something of a huge shock. And this is the part of my work I enjoy the best. Because when you know your future, often times you then have the ability to change the future.

And this is something of a guiding philosophy for the work that I do as a psychic. To know your future is to change your future. And so much of our future is the product of our habits. Our thoughts tend to become habitual, and thus our actions and our words tend to also follow certain habits. Once a person is presented with news of where that habit pattern is leading them, they not only make different choices, but very often they change their character. Your character is your destiny. And this reshaping, reinventing of oneself is the work which I most look forward to with my clients.

I have seen miraculous changes in people, as the result of psychic revelations followed by a decision to reflect inwardly and to change one's character.

Some people use psychic readings because they just got paid and it's fun. And I'm fine with that. But the clients which keep coming back to me, over the years, tend to be interested in their spiritual evolution. They have taken a look at where their lives are and have found the courage to ask if they can do better, think bigger, expect more.

3. WHAT ARE THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN READING FOR SOMEONE IN PERSON AND CONDUCTING A SESSION VIA EMAIL OR PHONE?

I very rarely see people in person anymore. The information age has allowed me a certain anonymity. I like that I can go to the store and not be recognized and not be asked for psychic advice during my off time. So nearly all of my psychic readings and spiritual counseling sessions are done by phone. And I find that my accuracy is about the same.

In fact, if anything I'd say that I am likely to be more accurate if I do not meet someone in person. How a person presents themselves in the material world elicits biases. And if we meet by phone, I am more likely to be clear.

Email is hit or miss. Generally I'm not as clear by email. That said, some of my most accurate readings have been conducted this way. I have had people send me one question by email and I end up writing a very long response, only to be told later that everything was spot on.

Believe it or not, how psychic awareness works is mostly a mystery to me. And I've been studying the science of consciousness for nearly as long as I've been providing psychic readings. I understand much of it and can explain a lot of how it works. But for the most part, it's a mystery. If you ask me a question, for example, one moment I have no idea what the answer is, and a moment later it hits me and I speak it and find out that I was dead on. It is really very strange.

4. IN ADDITION TO CONSULTING A PSYCHIC, WHAT ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS YOU MAKE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE WANTING TO CREATE CHANGE IN THEIR LIVES?

I feel that there are numerous valid paths toward expanding one's awareness. Seeing a qualified psychic is just one of them. I am a big fan of yoga, for opening up the mind, body, and spirit. Yoga connects these parts of a person to integrate the whole person.

I find that talk therapy is largely over-rated. The focus tends to be problem-oriented and the outcome is generally, at best, some form of behavior modification. I feel this approach fails to scratch that deeper itch, to know who we are, why we are here, and what our higher purpose is.

Prayer and meditation can also provide much in the way of clarity. Books such as the "Tao Te Ching" provide much in the way of deeper reflection, for those who are ready to embark on such a journey.

But for me personally, meditation is the most important. I meditate at least twice a day. It grounds me. It allows me to feel what my clients are feeling, without being captured by those feelings. I use meditation as part of my work and I often recommend it to my clients--many of whom have had tremendous success using meditation to reduce anxiety or depression.

5. FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER CONSULTED A PSYCHIC BEFORE, WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST THAT A PERSON DO TO PREPARE FOR A FIRST SESSION--AND THEN TO FOLLOW-UP/REFLECT AFTER THE SESSION?

Be skeptical. Sadly I must say that more than half of the people in my profession are total con artists. Be wary of anyone who is simply telling you what you want to hear about yourself. Keep an open mind, but a guarded heart. Trust only the psychic who has earned your trust.

That said, once you feel that you are working with a true and gifted intuitive adviser, consider your life the way you would like for it to be. And then ask questions based on your desire to navigate from the present to where you would like to find yourself. If you have found a good psychic, you have a real opportunity to get rid of obstacles, become free of old patterns and beliefs which no longer serve you. You are inventing yourself. We are all the product of our own invention. And if you are working with a truly gifted psychic, take that opportunity to shape yourself into who you want to be.

A good psychic adviser really has one objective--and that is to help you to become the best version of yourself that you can be. And this is not a selfish desire for you to have. By becoming the best version of yourself you can be, you make your contribution the world and to those whom you love the most.

A psychic reading is an opportunity to rewrite the story of your life. By knowing what happens, several chapters ahead, you can make changes now to bring about better outcomes for yourself and for those whom you care most about.

To know your future is to change your future. And we are indeed characters of our own invention. Yule Gifts And A Happy Holiday

I do hope you had a wonderful Christmas Day/Feast of Frau Holle/winter break yesterday - whatever you call the festive holiday and whatever you were doing.For me it was a slightly sad time because my mum passed away earlier this year and I still miss her. However, I spent the day with my partner and his mum, dad, sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew. NATURAL PSYCHIC ABILITIES & SUPERSTITION

Many newcomers to earth-based religions and mystery religions are often quite confused by the terms white magic and black magic. The bottom line is that all forms of magick are natural and neutral.

Despite what some people may think, psychic abilities (energy manipulation), precognition (divination), and postcognition (the understanding of past events), have no moral gradient or bias. They are neither good nor bad, they simply are faceits of the natural world. More importantly, they are the building blocks of the magick.

The fact that many people believe that there is a moral bias for forms of natural psychic abilities including telekinesis and psychokinesis. This comes from common superstition and the lack of self-education about these subjects. A person can be told many times over that these skills and forms of psychic abilities are natural and that everyone possesses them to some degree. If they do not understand these concepts, it simply goes in one ear and out the other.

As we begin the twenty-first century, psychism is still relatively uncharted territory for most of the world, but especially for the economically sound and politically correct United States. Spiritual faith in the United States has always waned in comparison to the more impoverished countries. Eastern Religions have worked with meditation, religious fasting and the pursuit of higher union with the Divine by means of personal introspection.

These inner abilities are becoming more accepted partly due to the New Age Movement, but they are far from New Age rhetoric. In regards to the practice of these crafts, it is important to remember that not all people are born with the same capacity for all psychic abilities.

Naturally intuitive people tend to gravitate towards the study of alternative faiths and/or the Mystery Religions. Peoples of all faiths, are equally capable of possessing these type of abilities that would cause attraction to alternative spiritual paths such as Wicca. Christian Wiccans with a higher sense of perception tend to believe that these abilities are natural and therefore of the Godhead, and see that there is no reason to hide them.

Fundamental Christians have a tendency to believe that a gift from God to any human can best be used in the service of the Godhead, why would this that different for Wiccans? Enlightened Christians tend to commune with the Divine in a more private form such as meditation. Wiccans encourage a more personal style of communion rather than going through a third party, such as a priest or minister. Since a personal relationship is encouraged, communion with the Divine can take place outside of a predesignated building.

Opinions or beliefs about the nature of these abilities are subjective and very greatly by who is is interpreting them. The abilities themselves remain the same and hold no bias in either direction until intent is applied by the individual. Forming these opinions and beliefs based on individual world views is a natural human trait.

Let us look past the black/white issue of magick in order to dispel the myth of unwanted results occurring during practical spell crafting. All forms of magick are derived from the conscious thoughts and the specific intent of the practitioner. Therefore, there can be no such thing as "accidentally invoking Satan". Rituals are multi-step ceremonies thoughtfully planned out to produce a specific result and draw heavily on the practitioner's intent. Therefore, an accidental mispronunciation or slightly incorrect gesture will not produce evil results so long as your original intent is pure.

SALEM, Mass. (AP) -- Her eyes are heavy with black makeup. Her
dresses are flowing caftans of a satiny black material. And her
explosion of long black hair covers her shoulders and much of her
back.
Laurie Cabot is a witch, if there were any doubt, and is more
than proud to tell you so.
A visitor to her house may be told of the jeers and threats she
endured over the years for her unconventional appearance and her
beliefs in the pagan witch religion, Wicca. Passing motorists would shout to her children that she should be burned.
"When I divorced for the second time, I decided to live my life
totally as a witch and I didn't care what people thought," she
said, her fingers flashing 14 gold and silver rings. "And because
I began wearing traditional witch clothing, I had to make a living
as a witch."
Now she is a local celebrity, cashing in on her notoriety and
serving as a defender of others who share her beliefs.
Gov. Michael S. Dukakis proclaimed her Salem's "official
witch" in 1975 for carrying out civic good works. And lately she
has spent much of her time rallying protesters against the state
film bureau which secured the filming in Massachusetts of John
Updike's novel, "The Witches of Eastwick."
Ms. Cabot denounced the book as "anti-women, anti-Christian and
anti-witch."
Despite an appearance that seems to confirm the broom-flying
stereotype, she asserts in a soft but insistent voice that witches
are not followers of the devil but rather decent, law-abiding
people you would want, and already may have, as neighbors.
Witches believe, she asserts, "Do as you will and harm none."
Pictures of witches as green-faced crones anger her and she
tells of marching into shops to rip up Halloween decorations. She
helped launch the Witches' League for Public Awareness in June to
protect her community's battered image.
In Salem, a historic town of 38,000 residents famous for its
17th century witch trials and where witchcraft now thrives as a
cottage industry, Laurie Cabot claims there are numerous practicing witches. Throughout the United States, her "guesstimate" is
several millions.
The twice divorced, 53-year-old witch lives with her two
daughters, five cats and 22 Teddy bears in an outwardly
undistinguished New England frame "salt box" on a quiet lane down
from A Pig in the Eye pub. She holds court around a broad table
with legs made from the curving roots of a tree.
"They are very quiet people who don't disturb anyone," said a
neighbor, Kevin O'Neil, a former embalmer who is now an autopsy
technician for Boston's medical examiner.
Her hard times, except for a recent attack by followers of
political extremist Lyndon LaRouche, appear behind her.
The Anaheim, Calif.-born former night club dancer is branching
out beyond her herb and potion shop, tarot card readings and
lectures on psychic powers. She's negotiating her entry into the
home video market with hopes to become the Jane Fonda of at-home
witchcraft instruction, she said.
Ms. Cabot teaches Witchcraft I, II, and III and other courses in
Salem and travels to New York City frequently to counsel Wall
Street investors at $200 for 30 minutes of her advice on what to
buy and sell, she said. She hopes to profit from a book she is
completing, "The Salem Witches' Handbook." But she accepts no
payment for treating people through what she calls her psychic
powers.
"I don't charge for healing but I do charge for everything
else," she smiled. Some patients come on their own, others are
referred to her by area doctors, she said.
One whose name she gave, Salem skin specialist Dr. John von
Weiss, told The Associated Press that he sent Laurie Cabot "six to
10" people suffering from warts since the growths were known to
disappear through the power of suggestion.
"I had gotten a follow-up on a few people and it was good,"
Dr. von Weiss said of the witch's wart removal record.
Despite her success, he stopped referring patients to Ms. Cabot
in the late 1970s.
Asked why, the Salem dermatologist replied: "The occult is a
pecular thing, you know." Then, after a pause, he added, "I don't
really want to give an explanation."
Her high-profile marketing no doubt has created resentment, if
not jealousy, within the witch community.
"She does fit the media stereotype of the witch. But I changed
my perception over the past few years," said Margot Adler, a
reporter for National Public Radio who researched a book about
contemporary witchcraft, "Drawing Down the Moon," and is herself
a practicing witch.
"Within the community, I think she has had a difficult road to
hoe because she has been perceived by some as commercial. She has
had more commercial flare. And anyone who does that in the pagan
community gets that kind of reputation. But we have had to rethink
that."
Laurie Cabot persuaded her, she went on, by saying: "Look we've
been in Salem for years, on the front lines. Now it's perfectly
possible to walk the streets in a robe and pentagram (witchcraft
symbol) and feel perfectly safe."
"She has been fighting for the same things we have -- the
freedom to practice our religion -- Wicca," Ms. Adler added.

I'm currently in the research stage for a book I'm writing, which means that I've been doing a LOT of reading as of late. The book I'm reading now is "Out of the Broom Closet: 50 True Stories of Witches Who Found and Embraced the Craft", edited by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. One story in there,...

I have experienced everything you've mentioned in this article, from both sides (as an insecure, teenaged eclectic in the 90s and now as a Gardnerian 3rd running a coven).

Most recently, I deal with intense hostility from young, new Wiccans and often less young (but often still new) non-Wiccan witches who think that I'm all about Gardner worship. The latter, I often find, are mostly parroting (and usually inaccurately) Michael Howard, who writes about his own (not always favorable) time with traditional Wiccans and the authenticity of other forms of witchcraft by comparison. I don't have a problem with Michael Howard, only with the failure to engage with any author's work critically (and, hey, we've totally been there).

What many of these critical folks fail to recognize is that it's 2014 and WE KNOW WE'RE MODERN. The whole "yeah but it's not really ancient" argument means nothing anymore. I am yet to meet the Gardnerian who isn't totally aware that what we do isn't passed down from the Stone Age and that we weren't there for the European witch hunts. We are AWARE of the Masonic influences, the historical inconsistencies, and Gardner's penchant for filling in blanks like frog DNA at Jurassic Park. We've read Ronald Hutton (not to mention the same Michael Howard books), too.

I am not a Gardnerian because I buy into defunct early twentieth century history about ancient European witch cults. I'm a Gardnerian because this is a system of witchcraft that is effective, because I love our gods, and because these are the people who have become my family. IT IS NOT A STATEMENT ABOUT ANYONE ELSE'S PRACTICE OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF WITCHCRAFT (or Wicca for that matter).

I have, on more occasions than I can count, befriended traditional or otherwise non-Wiccan witches only to hear, "You're not really like other Wiccans! You're more like us," or some variation ther. Usually it's because many of these folks haven't actually "met" any traditional Wiccans. We do have things in common, and, more importantly, it's been my experience that we have more things in common with each other than either of us does with popular Wicca (which I don't say to disparage it, only to point out the diversity present amongst Wiccans).

The hostility from other Wiccans is, I think, largely for the reasons you've described. I'm routinely lectured online (never, so far, to my face) about my supposed Gardner worship, but often these individuals aren't familiar with Gardner's work beyond the sexy rumors. For them, Gardner will never be anything other than a dirty old man, a position I would be fine with if I thought they'd reached that conclusion through primary source analysis (rather than via the copying described in the ) and if they didn't misspell "Gardnerian" throughout their comments (Jesus Christ I've even seen these errors in print). I have never found it to be effective to inform these individuals that, in fact, Gardnerians don't worship Gerald Gardner (it wasn't even us that started using the term "Gardnerian"), that I, too, take issue with much of Gardner's published work, and that JUST MAYBE they don't know everything there is to know about being Gard.

I would cite, as further evidence of eclectic "insecurity" (and for the love of all that is holy, I'm not saying that eclectics are as a whole insecure) the recent trend toward describing "any" organized, hierarchical version of Wicca as "traditional" while failing to appreciate what this word has historically meant for Brit Trads (here, I'm drawing a distinction between being a Traditional Wiccan in the BTW sense and belonging to a tradition "of" Wicca, the latter of which could include long-established systems that are respectable but nonetheless "not" BTW). One is not a "Traditional Wiccan" (I capitalize the T here because I want to emphasize a specific use of the term and not the dictionary definition) because one is a member of a version of Wicca (what the folks here on Tumblr would call Neo-Wicca or outer court Wicca) that happens to be well-established, has more than one coven, a training system, a hierarchy, etc. When I say I'm a "traditional Wiccan" in the BTW sense, I'm talking about lineage, experiential training, and an oral tradition that simply "is not available" outside of actually training with a BTW coven (it doesn't matter if you think you've found the BOS online or whatever because that "isn't" the tradition in and of itself). The "yeah, but who initiated the first witch" argument is totally irrelevant because I never said anybody wasn't a witch. All I said (and I probably didn't because I usually just keep my mouth shut) was you needed to be initiated IN ORDER TO BE A GARDNERIAN. Origins are not what is at stake here-consistent practice and the transference of power "is". When I go to a doctor, I trust that she went to an accredited medical school and is qualified to treat me. I don't go, "Yeah, but who trained the first doctor." It's not about how old someone is or how long they've been practicing or how good they are at witchcraft. I'm not saying that there aren't shitty, incompetent doctors in the world or that you wouldn't sometimes be better off going to an herbalist or a chiropractor. I'm only asking whether or not someone went to med school. It's pretty straightforward (and then we can have heated arguments about which med school is better, your class rank, etc.).

But this use of "traditional" by the self-taught (and the descendants of the self-taught in an initiatory coven setting) demonstrates that the label continues to carry weight that people equate to authenticity and realness, however differently it's used. I've also seen young people online describe themselves as traditional Wiccans (even as Gardnerians or Alexandrians) because they want to be set apart from what usually happens on #wicca, an impulse that I understand but that nonetheless demonstrates a failure to appreciate the meanings of these terms in these contexts.

I have personally been on all sides of this fence (I even have a surly journal entry from when I was 15 where I misspell "Gardnerian"). All I try to do at this point is maintain my tradition, uphold my oaths, and stand by for those well-suited seekers that do come my way. I've got no vendetta against other kinds of Wicca or other kinds of witchcraft. Collectively, BTW is perfectly healthy and doing things as we always have for those who care to seek us out.
