Part of how magick works is that it works through me. I am one of the primary channels through which the changes I wish to achieve can happen. By impressing the magick upon myself in a way that works most efficiently with my own nature, I can expect my entire body, mind and soul to work more effectively at casting the magick, therefore giving me more consistantly desirable results.

I took the multiple intelligences assesment and I got these results:

Spatial intelligence is not just my highest, but completely maxed. That makes perfect sense; most of my hobbies involve the visual arts. Career-wise, I am a web designer and graphic artist. I'm remodeling an old house and I design clothing, both of which requires a lot of visualization and spatial awareness.

I use this knowledge of my strong tendency toward the spatial in my magickal pursuits. Most of my magick involves sigils, symbols, and art. I've often painted out spells that I have cast, weaving the magick as I move my brush on the canvas. This painting, entitled, "FLY FLY AWAY," was one such working. I wanted to get out of town for a little bit, go on a sabbatical, clear my head and get a new perspective. Having summers off was a very nice perk of working for the school system. I just needed a destination and a bit of extra money to do so. Shortly after finishing this painting, I was invited by a friend in Alberta, Canada (JUST OUTSIDE OF EDMONTON) to visit for a few weeks. That week, I got a bonus check in the mail from my place of employment; apparently the principal was so impressed with my work, he named me one of the employees of the year, and that came with a nice fat bonus. On top of that, I found ridiculously cheap plane fare to my destination. I had a wonderful few weeks exploring the Great White North, I got to camp in the beautiful Canadian Rockies not far from Jasper, and got to have Tim Horton's doughnuts and coffee any morning, noon or night I wanted. I got a beautiful painting out of the deal, too.

I was certainly convinced when I saw my magick work so beautifully, and decided to make that one of my foci in my magickal pursuits. Currently, I have a desktop background on my computer with sigils on it that is helping with some of my current endeavors. I have numerous paintings and other hand-made creations which house current or past magickal endeavors.

I enjoy working magic with my coven and I work with spirits a lot. Both of those directly correlate to my second strongest intelligence, social intelligence. People with high social intelligence learn best by talking and interacting with others, by bouncing ideas and working with energy that is produced in groups. Obviously, I can't have my coven around all the time to work magick with, so I have a whole host of spirits living around me with whom I can work my magick.

I was doing some reflecting on different types of magick, and how they relate to the multiple intelligences. Take the MI assesment and see if these suggestions line up with the way you do magick.

* Spatial: sigil magick, yantras, sacred art, symbols, magick squares, talisman-making

* Linguistic: mantras, chants, poems, journaling, channeling and free-writing

* Kinesthetic: sacred dance, katas, repetitive motions, mudras and hand gestures, sign language, drawing symbols in the air, pantomime

* Mathematical/logical: Numerology, sacred geometry, exploring sacred mathematical patterns such as the Fibonacci sequence, gematria

* Interpersonal: Group magickal work, work with a partner, working with spirits and other external entities.

* Intrapersonal: Meditation, guided journeys, workings on the astral plane

* Musical: Sacred music, singing, drumming, chanting

* Naturalist: Keeping plants for magical purposes, working with animals and animal spirits, working with natural phenomena such as weather, seasons, moon phases.

Of course, I make it a point to work with all of these from time to time, so that I can strengthen those intelligences which are not so developed. One day, I'll be able to carry a more complex rhythm than a Beladi, I promise. I make it a point to not lock myself in to my strengths, but to also work to develop my weaknesses. Though I will rely on my strengths first when I need to get something done, developing my weaker areas gives me channels through which I may grow. Since my Great Work requires me to develop all aspects of myself, the multiple intelligences also provide me with a guidemap for areas to improve.

COVINGTON -- Augustine Dodier "Billie" Bennett died on May 26, 2000 at the age of 85 of cancer.
She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for the past 22 years. She was the retired cafeteria manager for St. Mathias Catholic School in New Orleans and she also cooked for the Christian Brothers at St. Paul's School in Covington.
She was a member of the Covington Kaycettes, a women's auxiliary, the St. Tammany Hospital Guild and she also did volunteer work for the St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Gene Bennett of Covington; a sister, Olive Dudenhefer of Metairie; and a daughter-in-law, Gay Glaudi Bennett. Preceding Bennett in death were her husband, Eugene C.
Bennett Sr. and two sisters, Edith Montz and Bessie Domingo.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 29, 2000 at St. Paul's School Chapel in Covington.
Interment was in Hope Mausoleum in New Orleans.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being asked in the name of the St. Paul's Retired Brothers Community, 917 S. Jahcke Ave., Covington, La., 70433.

Richard P. Dyess
COVINGTON -- Richard P. Dyess died Monday, May 29, 2000 of cancer at his home in Covington.
Dyess was 76 years of age.
He was a native of Ellisville, Miss., and he lived in Covington for the past 38 years.
He was a retired executive and a retired store manager of G.C. Murphey Co., which conducted business for many years as Morgan & Lindsay, and he was a veteran U.S. Army Staff Sergeant with a T-5 rating.
A graduate of Ellisville High School in Ellisville, Miss., he attended East Central Junior College in Mississippi and Mississippi State University.
Survivors include his wife, Clovis Tadlock Dyess; a daughter, Kay Dyess Simmons of Mandeville;
and a brother, Pat H. Dyess of Batesville, Ark.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 31, 2000 from Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home.
Interment followed in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

MANDEVILLE -- Margaret K. Stockwell died Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at her home following a lingering illness.
She was 76 years of age and a resident of Mandeville for the past 12 years.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas D. Stockwell; a daughter, Becky Rutowski; a son, Mark Stockwell; a brother, Marty Marshall; two sisters, Anne Buehler and Katherine Halkin; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Schoen Funeral Home, 1414 S. Tyler St.,
Covington.
The interment will be private.
A visitation is to be observed at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

PICAYUNE, Miss. - Robert Anthony "Bob" Foulon Sr., 71, of the Caesar Community of Picayune, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at his residence.
Foulon, a native of New Orleans, La., was an instructor at Delgado Trades School in New Orleans, La., for 11 years.
Services were held Saturday, June 10, 2000, in the Union Baptist Church of the Caesar Community, in Picayune. The Rev. G.A. McCoy officiated at the services.
Foulon was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria M. Foulon and a stepson, Norman Rester.
Survivors include his wife, Linda L.R. Foulon of Picayune; three sons, Robert A. Foulon Jr.,
David Foulon, both of Picayune, and Tracy Foulon of Gulfport; one daughter, Cassie F. O'Neal of Picayune; two stepsons, Andy Rester of Columbus and Eric Rester of Picayune; one stepdaughter, Dolly Lee of Picayune; and a brother, Eugene "Genie" Foulon of Bush, La. Additional survivors are nine grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

MANDEVILLE - Richmond Brierre Galbreath died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at his Mandeville residence.
He was 76 years of age, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Mandeville for the past 17 years.
He was a retired executive vice-president of Cities Service Co. and he was a past chairman of the board of Syncrude Oil of Canada. He was a graduate of Tulane University, Northwestern Management School and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and Beau Chene Golf and Racquet Club.
He served with the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II and the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Galbreath; two daughters, Pamela Olson and Barbara Minutillo; one son, Richmond B. Galbreath Jr.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.
Interment was in Metairie Cemetery.

Florence Evelyn Roy
COVINGTON - Florence Evelyn Roy died June 9, 2000 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
She was 62 years of age and a resident of Covington for the past 22 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertram G. and Evelyn Chretien Smith.
Survivors include one brother, Bert Smith III; and one sister, Geraldine Chaplain.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1 N. Marigold Drive, Covington.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery in Metairie.

She was 90 years of age.
She was a native of Kentwood and a longtime resident of Jackson, Miss.
She was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major, and she was a longtime elementary school teacher in Kentwood, Bastrop and Tangipahoa.
She was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Military Order of World Wars, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Jackson, Miss.
She was the daughter of the late George Atherton Kennon Sr. and Golda Ellzey Kennon; and the sister of the late Susan Kennon Johnson and George Atherton Kennon Jr.

Who would have thought that this queer nun was going to be involved in an amazing and incredible journey of reconciliation created by the resilient Aboriginal Communities in Canada? Being both a non-aboriginal individual and a recent immigrant to Canada make me a foreigner in this land. From my experience at the LGBT-Two Spirit Reconciliation Dialogue on April 15 and 16, I now also realize that the Aboriginal communities have welcomed me and all of us from other land through their generous spirit of family and friendship. I also became aware that the beautiful Land in which I chose to live on for the rest of my life has been part of the First Nations territories long before the Europeans arrived and colonized the Americas. I honour this fact and I am grateful for this awareness.

My passion for reconciliation work surprised me. A few days before the reconciliation dialogue was held, I received an email from Sr. Merry Q. telling the abbey members that we had been invited to a reconciliation dialogue for the LGBT-Two-Spirit Aboriginal Community by Reconciliation Canada, the agency under the umbrella of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Reconciliation Canada (www.reconciliationcanada.ca) is conducting a series of Reconciliation Dialogue Workshops across the province to engage Canadians in dialogue that provides a safe environment to revitalize relationships, raise awareness, and provide a safe environment to explore reconciliation. I will also participate in the Vancouver Walk for Reconciliation on September 22, 2013. The walk will bring people from all of Canada's many cultures together in a mass walk, in demonstration of a shared commitment to reconciliation. I invite you to join me in both of these ventures.
