Wicca is a modern pagan, witchcraft religion

Wicca is a diverse religion with no central authority or figure defining it.

Wicca often involves the ritual practice of magic, though it is not always necessary

Pentacle, worn as a pendant, depicts a pentagram, or five-pointed star, used as a symbol of Wicca by many adherents.

Beliefs in Wicca range from hard polytheism to even monotheism.

Wicca is typically duotheistic, worshipping a god and goddess traditionally viewed as a mother goddess and horned god.

The term Wicca first achieved widespread acceptance when referring to the religion in the 1960s and 70s

Application of the word Wicca has given rise to "a great deal of disagreement and infighting".

The Goddess and the God may be regarded as the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine

The God and Goddess are generally seen as lovers and equals, the Divine Couple who together co-create the cosmos.

Traditionally the God is viewed as a Horned God, associated with nature, wilderness, sexuality, hunting and the life cycle

The Horned God is given various names according to the tradition, and these include Cernunnos, Pan, Atho and Karnayna.

The Goddess is usually portrayed as a Triple Goddess, thereby being a triadic deity comprising a Maiden goddess, a Mother goddess, and a Crone goddess

Some Wiccans, particularly from the 1970s onwards, have viewed the Goddess as the more important of the two deities, who is pre-eminent in that she contains and conceives all. In this respect, the God is viewed as the spark of life and inspiration within her, simultaneously her lover and her child.

Death Cal Cooper On Ghost Therapy

Death Cal Cooper On Ghost Therapy
I frequently talked to my mother in the days and months after she died. Sometimes I still do. I could feel her presence in her favourite armchair and wouldn't let other people sit there. Even now, I only let the cat sleep on that chair, which remains where it was when she was alive, by the window my mum liked to look out of and watch the world go by.

If I close my eyes and try to tune in to the realm of the spirits, I can sometimes hear her voice offering advice or just making a wry comment as she often would in life. Do you think that makes me weird? I used to think so, but after listening to Cal Cooper talk about ghost therapy at Goldsmith's Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit on Tuesday evening I realised I am far from alone. However, apparently few people readily admit they have been chatting with dead relatives because they are also worried others will think them weird.

Cal Cooper is doing a PhD at the University of Northampton, lectures on parapsychology and is the author of the book Telephone Calls from the Dead. His talk was about post-death experiences in the bereaved - meaning people seeing, hearing or otherwise sensing a loved one after they had died - and how these experiences can help them get over their grief.

A study by WD Rees in 1971 showed it was extremely common for people to sense the presence of a dead spouse or relative - perhaps seeing them and having conversations with them or just feeling they were close or dreaming about them. What's more, 85% of those people found the experience helpful. Very few were scared - despite ghosts normally being considered pretty scary things.

Later research showed that most apparitions of that kind occurred 24 hours before or after the death, with the peak time being at the moment of death. It can happen for months or even years afterwards though. It is a common practice for the window in the room of a dying person to be left open so that the spirit can leave and many nurses have reported seeing a mist passing out of a dead person.

Although most of those kinds of experiences are unexpected, other contact with dead loved ones is sought out - such as going to seances. Cal asked whether seances are a bad thing if those going to them feel that they help them. Obviously there is a problem if a medium charges large amounts of money from someone who can ill afford it, but if the seance is free and those who attend feel helped, what is the problem?

Most people who go to mediums are generally positive about the experience and it can be considered a form of counselling. It can strengthen a belief in the afterlife and give a sense of peace and comfort. Cal believes that any counsellor who has a bereaved person as a client could help them by listening to any spiritual stories they tell - such as seeing the ghost of a loved one - and "putting themselves in their shoes".

Most of the stories the bereaved relate about connectivity with the dead are helpful. The main positive thing that seems to come from them is a sense of hope - and, like Pandora's Box, hope is a very important thing to retain when you feel you have lost everything.

I thought the topic of ghost therapy and contact with the dead being helpful for the bereaved was particularly relevant at Samhain - or Halloween - when many pagans like to honour dead ancestors and sometimes try to contact them through seances or other rites or ceremonies. As Cal observed, ghosts need not be scary and can give hope at times of darkness.

"In the weeks around Halloween I am looking at death by blogging about all things from burial sites and ghost stories to examining our attitudes to death. Here are some links and previous related posts:"

Zoo V Religion In Life Of Pi

Zoo V Religion In Life Of Pi
The action Of Pi: Zoo v. Church In The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, the main character Pi finds theology to be a dominant element in his life. He studies it and relies on it and does his best to sh atomic number 18 it with the world. The more or less curious thing of his beliefs and morality that he doesnt confound salutary sense impressionz organized piety or set of beliefs - he has three. For the main character the idea of having a pietism(s) and the devotion to it may be more of a recourse then the religion itself. Pis speaks n archaean the misconceptions people have of zoos the uniform context whiz might try and defend religion, lead one to conceptualize the zoo is an fiction for his defense of religion. Pi talks early in the book about how religion was a arranged element of his life since he was actually young. He in addition mentions that the zoo was a cosmic go bad of his childhood. To me it was enlightenment on earth. I have nothing unless the fondest memories of growing up in that zoo (Martel 14). He dictum the zoo as his safe-haven and as he said, his paradise. On one hand because it seemed magic but also because it was what he was exposed to and he byword all the positives of it. Often when people are raised with religion in a positive atmosphere, and it isnt alone forced upon them, they chance a deep connection with it.

If one is raised with a religion and base all of their dreams and hopes on it, it becomes their paradise. However, to play devils advocate, he might touch on that his recognize for religion grew smaller with age...though it seemed to grow smaller as I grew older, train included!. in a flash its so small it fits in my walk (12). This causes me to question if he is using the zoo as an allegory for his religion, saying that as he grew older the idea of religion no drawn-out played such a large part and manifestly remained an idea in his head. I have heard virtually as much nonsense about zoo as i have God and faith (15). Pi shows discontent with how people spoke of zoos being prisons for animals, versus the safe-havens he saw...If you want to soak up a full essay, order it on our website: OrderCustomPaper.com

Why The Dog Could Not Drink

Why The Dog Could Not Drink
Sufi mystic Shibli was asked, "Who guided you in the Path?"He said: "A dog. One day I saw him, almost dead with thirst, standing by the water's edge. Every time he looked at his reflection in the water he was frightened, and withdrew, because he thought it was another dog."Finally, such was his necessity, he cast away fear and leapt into the water; at which the '"other dog"' vanished."The dog found that the obstacle, which was himself, the barrier between him and what he sought, melted away."In this same way my own obstacle vanished, when I knew that it was what I took to be my own self. And my Way was first shown to me by the behavior of a dog."The significance of this story is that we should see things clearly and not through our egoism. We must distinguish between real thing and the mere reflection of self.- Spirituality, Science and Psychology in the Sufi Way by Prof. Mohamed Yahia Haschmi, from the Book Sufi Studies: East and West. Keywords: magic book of spells egyptian gods and goddesses family tree gods and goddesses names and powers divine love spells famous greek gods and goddesses very powerful spells become a mason powerful love spells buddha meditation

Invocation To Pan

Invocation To Pan
Pan is the Lord of the Woods, god of goatherds and huntsmen; ecstatic dancer; god of laughter and good humor; god of excessive sexual desire (hence his opposition to marriage). He is called 'the lonely God', and 'the last arrived of the Gods'. Half-man, half-goat, He is the original party animal. He is the mediator between nature and the Gods. He is a God of strength - the marathon torch race in the original Olympics was dedicated to Pan - and He saved the Greeks at Marathon. He was not an Athenian God, but an Arcadian, from the rugged mountainsides. He fought the Titans with Zeus, yet His panic makes battle impossible, breaking the artificial bond of an army and causing everyone to run away. He has connections to Artemis, Goddess of the hunt: He shares Her nymphs and must obey Her. Pan is the one who led Persephone's wedding dance, happily piping His pipes as She was led into the underworld, yet it was Pan who found Demeter in mourning when no one else could find Her. And it was Pan's daughter, Iambe, who got Demeter to laugh and forget Her grief for just a moment. When you clap your hands, you are doing homage to Pan, when you laugh, and when you dance.

The legend of Pan tells of a god born with goat legs and feet, horns, and a furry human upper body. The other gods ridiculed him because of his appearance, and so Pan left Olympus, and went to live in Arcadia. There, he spent his time chasing lovely nymphs, and playing on his pipes. Pan was the god of flocks, forests and fields, and is often associated with Nature in general. At times, he would stamp his foot in anger, and cause a "panic" among mortals.

Pan became especially enamoured of a water nymph, or naiad, named Syrinx. He pursued her, but she escaped him by fleeing to a river, where she was changed to a stand of reeds. Pan finally took some of these, and fashioned the instrument known as "Pan's pipes", on which

he played to console himself.

Face the altar with raised hands and say:

O Great God Pan,

Beast and man,

Shepherd of goats and Lord of the Land,

I call you to attend my rites

On this most magickal of nights.

God of the wine,

God of the vine,

God of the fields and God of the kine,

Attend my circle with your love

And send Your blessings from above.

Help me to heal;

Help me to feel;

Help me to bring forth love and weal.

Pan of the forests, Pan of the glade,

Be with me as my magick is made!

" Great God Pan, return to Earth again!

Come at my call and show thyself to men.

Shepherd of Goats, upon the wild hill's way,

Lead thy lost flock from darkness into day,

Forgotten are the ways of sleep and night,

Men seek for them whose eyes have lost the light.

Open the door, the door which hath no key,

The door of dreams, whereby men come to thee.

O Mighty Stag, O answer to me!

Oh, playful one, with pipe you prance,

The goat-foot Pan, lord of the dance.

With feral joy in ancient wood

You embue life with mirth and good.

Of seed and beast and plant and tune

We seek your form under this moon.

The woodland king, the lord of trees,

Friend to the moon and stars and breeze.

Hear us, horned one, your children cry,

And bring your song of life nearby.

Give us your fertile and creative force

And help to return us to wildness, our source.

Wild wond'rous Pan, the forest's sire

Enter this circle as we desire.

Enclose us all, be with us today

Magically join in our sacred play.

Congratulations Shane Dunlevy

Congratulations Shane Dunlevy
On Saturday, the Eastern Province Dominicans announced their 2013 Novitiate Class, including my good friend Shane Dunlevy. Here is Shane's vocation story:

Shane Dunlevy

I was born in Columbus, Ohio and raised 30 minutes south east of the city on 2-1/2 acres surrounded by cornfields and forests. As the youngest, I would often adventure off with my 2 older brothers, while my sister, the oldest, did more civilized things. My parents taught elementary in the public school system, and chose to send us to public schools and CCD. As a family, we attended Mass weekly, and our mother would pray with us before we went to sleep. Our parents loved us, and gave themselves to us financially and emotionally, always emphasizing academics, athletics, work ethic and faith.

Though I was raised Catholic from my youth, it wasn't until my later years of high school that I discovered the Catechism. Learning the teachings of the Catholic Church and her intelligence moved me to live the Faith more fully. The summer of 2004 I volunteered as a counselor at the Diocese of Columbus's Catholic Youth Summer Camp. During confession on the last night of camp, I could hear God calling me to be His priest. This happened two weeks before the start of my freshman year at Virginia Tech's School of Architecture + Design; I went to school, delaying my discernment.

After completing my Bachelor and Master of Architecture at Virginia Tech, I designed churches for two years at an architecture firm in Arlington, Virginia. While working for a few years, I was also in a relationship with a fantastic woman. When we began to consider marriage, we could see God was leading me to a different vocation. Though it took several years and countless reasons, I'm pursuing the call thanks to the writing of Dante and St. Augustine, the preaching of Venerable Bishop Fulton Sheen and Fr. Robert Barron, and the generosity and love of my brother Joseph and Fr. Michael Kelly, priest for the Arlington Diocese.

I discovered the Dominicans during Tenebrae of 2012, and I considered the life after meeting with the vocation directors of Arlington and Columbus. Living near the Dominican House of Studies has afforded me the chance to pray, eat and converse with the brothers. I find the balance of contemplative and apostolic life, the charism of study, the reverence of the liturgy and the fraternal community all things that could lead to a happy life fulfilled by giving people knowledge of salvation.

A spiritual family tree (from L-R): Fr. Michael Kelly, Shane Dunlevy,

and Brother Ignatius (who helped Fr. Kelly discern his vocation).

One of the reasons that I'm thrilled that Shane has been accepted is that our vocational paths are intertwined. We were in a men's group together at St. Mary's in Alexandria, Virginia. In 2010, a brand-new priest, Fr. Michael Kelly, took over from Fr. John De Celles as the head of our men's group (here's my reaction to our first meeting with him). He encouraged both Shane and I to take our vocational discernment seriously, and to get to know each another better. That advice led each of us to the seminary, and caused us to form a close and spiritually edifying friendship.

So as always, pray for vocations! And if you see someone you think might be called to be a priest, or a religious brother or sister, let them know. It could make a world of difference.

Earlier this year, I had the joy of celebrating the Feast of St. Basil the Great with Shane. Here's how St. Gregory Nazianzen described by his friendship with Basil:

I was not alone at that time in my regard for my friend, the great Basil. I knew his irreproachable conduct, and the maturity and wisdom of his conversation. I sought to persuade others, to whom he was less well known, to have the same regard for him. Many fell immediately under his spell, for they had already heard of him by reputation and hearsay. [...] Our single object and ambition was virtue, and a life of hope in the blessings that are to come; we wanted to withdraw from this world before we departed from it. With this end in view we ordered our lives and all our actions. We followed the guidance of God's law and spurred each other on to virtue. If it is not too boastful to say, we found in each other a standard and rule for discerning right from wrong. I couldn't possibly say it any better. Oh, and for the record: we almost went to the Franciscan monastery for Tenebrae in 2012.

Edit: From Benedict Croell, O.P., here are the men who will be Shane's classmates. Congratulations to them all!

How To Protect Yourself Against Ancestral Problems

How To Protect Yourself Against Ancestral Problems
What can I do to protect myself against ancestral problems?Problems caused due to departed ancestors are a specific type of spiritual difficulty. Therefore we can successfully overcome them only by applying a specific spiritual remedy. Psychological and physical remedies simply cannot overcome the root cause of the problem and can only provide some symptomatic relief, at best. For example, if a person is suffering from a skin rash caused by ancestors, relevant medical treatment can at best provide relief but it cannot cure the rash completely or prevent it from occurring again. In order to gain insulation from problems caused due to departed ancestors, we recommend chanting the protective chant of '"Sri Gurudev Datta"'. This chant represents the Name of Deity Datta, an aspect of God. This is to be done daily along with chanting the Name of God according to the religion of one's birth.Chanting of Deity Datta's Name is a kind of prescription chant to overcome a specific spiritual problem i.e. problems caused due to departed ancestors. On the other hand, chanting the Name of God according to the religion of one's birth acts as a general spiritual tonic for overall spiritual growth. Chanting of Deity Datta's Name provides protection, but not spiritual growth. To give you an analogy, chanting Deity Datta's Name is like having an extra dose of Vitamin C when one has a common cold. The Vitamin C is taken along with the usual multi-vitamin tablet taken for good health (which is the Name according to the religion of birth). When we repeat the protective chant of "'Sri Gurudev Datta'", we attract the divine energy associated with Datta's Name and as a result we benefit in the following ways: * A subtle protective sheath envelops us, protecting us from obstacles caused by our ancestors. * It helps to nullify the give-and-take account that we have with our ancestors thus reducing their influence on us. * It gives our ancestors the assistance they require to make their onward journey in the subtle world. However, the extent of benefit depends on the quantity and quality of our chanting, which besides other factors, depends on our spiritual level. It is recommended that one chants the protective chant of '"Sri Gurudev Datta"' on a daily basis depending on the severity of the distress. As it is a prescription chant that helps to remove obstacles in one's life, it is best if it is done in the morning as it then provides the requisite spiritual protection for the day. One can then chant the Name of God according to the religion of birth during the rest of the day.We recommend the quantity of chanting "'Sri Gurudev Datta"'"' that is commensurate with the severity of the distress experienced due to ancestral problems. It is based on spiritual research and Knowledge gained by accessing the Universal Mind and Intellect through the medium of a highly advanced sixth sense (ESP). * In case where no distress to mild distress is experienced, one can chant for 1 to 2 hours every day in order to avoid such trouble in future. * In case where the distress is medium, chant for 2 to 4 hours every day. * If the distress is severe one must chant "'Sri Gurudev Datta"' for 4 to 6 hours per day.NOTE: The above quantity of recommended chanting has been increased recently. The increased duration of chanting has been recommended taking into account the rise in trouble caused by ancestors and negative energies in the current and in the coming times. Please read the article, 'What are ancestral problems' to understand the types of distress or problems that can happen due to our departed ancestors. The following are some indicators of the severity of distress Type Example Mild Skin problems, marital conflicts Moderate Divorce, mentally challenged child Severe Miscarriage, death in childhoodNOTE: If the difficulties are severe, then one could also be advised to perform specific spiritual rituals. Information regarding these will be published in later articles. Related Links

Third Glassy Wiccan Priestesses adore to disclose their experiences, too, which is lucky for all of us. As Noble Branwenn WhiteRaven, a.k.a. Paula Jean West, says:

Piece of legislation travel correspondence for our community and for all the earth-centered, eco-conscious communities has become one of the best stuff that ever happened to me.

WhiteRaven has Examined a hunger series of procedures, every one of which sounds genuine entrancing. She is correspondingly trustworthy for the meticulously careful Pagan Celebration Locate 2009-2010. She says the number of Pagans corporation doubles every meeting and a unfinished, so we give be seeing boss of these festivals, and boss attendees. The gravel abounds with more or less kinds of Pagans, plus Discordians, Druids, Shamans, Kabbalah people, and Asatru (the Norse).

Patti Wigington, extra Third Glassy Elevate Priestess and tarot card reader, gives a hand up to neophytes with a series of "Pagan Beginning 101 guides to matters of social event conduct. "Don't ditch doesn't matter what here a ritual fire unless you are specifically invited to do so," is a standard of good paganfest point of reference. And what close up laws alternative, and you don't wish to get the suffer organizers fined or confined, "Pay dilemma to policy more or less openness." As well Wigington warns us that, unless you are specifically invited, it's very uncool to array up or add extra person's magical tool. Their, uh, wand, for moment, or their "athame", which is a ritual sense carried by a witch. All good, practical taste.

Overcoming some close up balk, Dover, Delaware, precisely hosted the Delmarva Pagan Airs Celebration, rigid by Ivo Dominguez Jr. and sponsored by The Recuperate of the Holy Reins. (Delmarva, by the way, is a strip of land that includes parts of three total states. How odd.) Distress, Wedding album and Candle, a shop specializing in candles, books and doorbell, posted some very decent pictures of this suffer, which appears to be in a town ready and a person seems to be having a very likable time. The Pagans of Delmarva and the travelers who happening for the affair enjoyed the vat circle and the dwell on travels, as well as the slat music and the words of the teachers who came to symposium esoteric spiritual matters.

"Holy Sites of England" is not a social event, but a knee that people can pay to put up with. We don't know the proprietors, on the contrary they both practice entrancing specialties. Karen Rae Wilson's credentials hold the titles of Celtic Telepathist, Peacefulness Troubadour, Debate Keeper, Shaman and Spur for Extroverted Riches. Paddy Baillie is a sacred skilled healer who works lay down the medium or apparatus of words dishes through from earn quartz crystal.

We adore the Holy Humankind Journeys site what it provides a tidy capsule tale of why each and every destination on their list is a valuable place, from the spiritual/historical wrap of view. Somerset for copy is "careful the above all foundation multifaceted of the world," and West Kennet Longbarrow is the get into to the earth's womb. Being paid up close and overfriendly with Close relative Humankind, popular. One blogger complains of visiting present-day single-handedly to be definite the abundant look at by pagans who were conducting a observation, but that's palpable. They seem to national be a extraordinary unwrap pile.

Avalon is everyplace the Noble of the Combine hung out, and Glass Exceptional runs with healing waters. The track includes numerous holy stones, and three total sites frequented by Emperor Arthur, namely Glastonbury Abbey and the castles habitual as Cadbury and Tintagel.

But this knee is not fair about seeing sights. It's about empowerment, which is moved by the Grail Foreword Splendor, and it's about revealing the Holy Feminine and Holy Masculine tucked absent within the traveler's own outline. Understand the cause Kurt Vonnegut's word "karass," the group of people you're cosmically, karmically united with? There's an old Celtic designate for that, the "Anam Cara." The hobbyhorse popular is, signing up for this greedy of knee muscle be a good way to interlock with being friends and family spirits. Exceptional, that happens on all the best journeys, doesn't it? Formerly, why bother?

We are, of course, soliciting reader thoughts on recommended sacred sites.
