Nyc Pagan Lecture Series

Nyc Pagan Lecture Series
Herman Slater

Here is an example of the inspirational way of Michael Lloyd's Bull of Heaven: The Mythic Life of Eddie Buczynski and the Rise of the New York Pagan: My friend Gary Suto (a notable community leader in NYC Paganism) was inspired in reading the book to discover that Herman Slater created a Pagan lecture series in November 1972, to promote public awareness of modern Paganism and Witchcraft (and yes, to generate publicity for his store The Warlock Shop, and yes, in response to a competitor). Be all this as it may, the lecture series was held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Brooklyn. After the lightening bolt of divine inspiration, Gary contacted Rev. Jude Geiger of the UU Church, and then with Rev. Geiger's support, a core group of local Pagans, coming up with: The Pagan Way Anniversary Lecture Series, coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of the Warlock Shop's Lectures. As this is genuinely fantastic idea, I would urge any and all Pagans who can possibly manage, to be sure to attend at least one (if not all) of these important talks.

The series begins on Nov. 13, 2012, with "New York Pagan History: How We Got To Where We Are Today," by "Bull of Heaven" author Michael Lloyd.

The second lecture takes place Nov. 20, 2012: "Male/ Female Polarities in Paganism: Do We Need Them," presented by NYC Witch Queen Lady Rhea and Gary Suto.

The third occurs on Dec. 4, 2012, titled "Walking the Talk: Pagan Ethics, Spirituality, and the Environment," offered by Silkie O-Ishi Robinson and Courtney Weber.

The fourth, on Dec. 11, 2012, is "Evolution of Modern Paganism: Who and Where We Are Today," presented by Margot Adler, Lexa Ros'ean, and Matthew Sawicki.

This lecture series is sure to be informative and enlightening, and very unique for recreating Mr. Slater's originals. Great thanks to Gary Suto and Rev. Jude Geiger of the First Unitarian Universalist Church for arranging it! Can't wait!
