Therefore, to be on the right path and to be the believer, one needs to remember Allah and remind himself of all the blessings he has. There are prescribed azkar after salah. Some of them are mentioned below along with their transliteration for the sake of ease. These azkar are to be recited by the imam, the one who is being in the prayer by imam and the one who is offering salah individually i.e. every person can read them.

After each obligatory prayer, once should say this thrice;

ASTAGHFIRULLAH (I ask Allah forgiveness)And then,

"Allahumma Anta Al-Salam Wa Minka Al-Salam, Tabarakta Wa Ta'alayta Ya-dhal-Jalali Wal-Ikram" (O Allah, You are Al-Salam [the One Who is free from all defects and deficiencies] and from You is all peace, blessed are You, Possessor of majesty and honor!)After fajar and maghrib prayer, one should say this 10 times along with the above mentioned azkar;

"La Ilah Illa Allah, Wahdahu La Sharika Lah, Lahu Al-Mulk Wa Lahu Al-Hamd, Yuhyi Wa Yumit, Wa Huwa 'Ala Kull Shay'in Qadir".It is also sunnah to recite ayatul-kursi ( 2:255) and surah Ikhlas, surah naas an surah al-falak one time each after zuhr, asar and isha prayers and thrice each after fajar and maghrib prayers.

All the above mentioned azkar are from the sahih traditions of prophet Muhammad pbuh. there are more and one should not limit himself to recite only what should be. But it should be our goal to earn as much sawab as we can from each act we do.

Remember, salah is the key to jannah. If it is offered in perfect manner, it is a success. But if one offers it just for the sake of offering it, then such a salah is not accepted because we need salah not Allah swt.

Advent Wreath Prayers

Our Advent Wreath tradition is to turn the light off and light the candle(s) on the wreath and then say the Advent prayer for that week. Then we sing a Christmas song of the children's choice. Then one child gets to blow out the candle. Aren't these candles beautiful (and they smell wonderful too). I admired them here last year and just had to give the Mount Angel Abbey bookstore a call this year to get some. They are handmade by a monk and the Abbey bookstore was kind enough to have one of the monks bless them for me before they mailed them to me.

Our evenings in Advent begin after dinner with the Jesse Tree reading and ornament, followed by the lighting of the Advent Wreath and prayer and Christmas song, and then the children get to open their chocolate Advent calendars as a final treat each evening.

dresses are flowing caftans of a satiny black material. And her

Laurie Cabot is a witch, if there were any doubt, and is more
than proud to tell you so.
A visitor to her house may be told of the jeers and threats she
endured over the years for her unconventional appearance and her
beliefs in the pagan witch religion, Wicca. Passing motorists would shout to her children that she should be burned.
"When I divorced for the second time, I decided to live my life
totally as a witch and I didn't care what people thought," she
said, her fingers flashing 14 gold and silver rings. "And because
I began wearing traditional witch clothing, I had to make a living
as a witch."
Now she is a local celebrity, cashing in on her notoriety and
serving as a defender of others who share her beliefs.
Gov. Michael S. Dukakis proclaimed her Salem's "official
witch" in 1975 for carrying out civic good works. And lately she
has spent much of her time rallying protesters against the state
film bureau which secured the filming in Massachusetts of John
Updike's novel, "The Witches of Eastwick."
Ms. Cabot denounced the book as "anti-women, anti-Christian and
anti-witch."
Despite an appearance that seems to confirm the broom-flying
stereotype, she asserts in a soft but insistent voice that witches
are not followers of the devil but rather decent, law-abiding
people you would want, and already may have, as neighbors.
Witches believe, she asserts, "Do as you will and harm none."
Pictures of witches as green-faced crones anger her and she
tells of marching into shops to rip up Halloween decorations. She
helped launch the Witches' League for Public Awareness in June to
protect her community's battered image.
In Salem, a historic town of 38,000 residents famous for its

The Anaheim, Calif.-born former night club dancer is branching
out beyond her herb and potion shop, tarot card readings and

home video market with hopes to become the Jane Fonda of at-home

Ms. Cabot teaches Witchcraft I, II, and III and other courses in
Salem and travels to New York City frequently to counsel Wall

payment for treating people through what she calls her psychic
powers.
"I don't charge for healing but I do charge for everything
else," she smiled. Some patients come on their own, others are
referred to her by area doctors, she said.
One whose name she gave, Salem skin specialist Dr. John von
Weiss, told The Associated Press that he sent Laurie Cabot "six to
10" people suffering from warts since the growths were known to
disappear through the power of suggestion.
"I had gotten a follow-up on a few people and it was good,"
Dr. von Weiss said of the witch's wart removal record.
Despite her success, he stopped referring patients to Ms. Cabot
in the late 1970s.
Asked why, the Salem dermatologist replied: "The occult is a

Her high-profile marketing no doubt has created resentment, if
not jealousy, within the witch community.
"She does fit the media stereotype of the witch. But I changed

"Within the community, I think she has had a difficult road to
hoe because she has been perceived by some as commercial. She has

Westport, Co. Mayo. Even if I hadn't read the signs, my nose could have found it, such were the gorgeous aromas coming from the hot food stalls. My tastebuds were mugged by a hotdog stand with a range of interesting sausages on offer - for me it had to be the lamb and rosemary sausage - my compliments to Kelly's of

Newport - delicious! I nearly cried when a passerby jogged my arm and the last bite ended up on the ground - the last bite is the best bit :(

"Yum, those cupcakes look fairy, fairy delicious!"

There were more cupcakes than you could shake a stick at - some simple, some with little personalities of their own. I was very tempted to have these for dessert but I'd been to Sinead Lambert and Jose Barroso's Sol Rio caf'e in Bridge Street once before and needed one of their hot chocolates. Ok, the hot chocolate was just an excuse - the real reason was that I had developed an instant addiction to their famous Past'eis de Nata" - creamy Portuguese custard tarts in a puff pastry that manages to be crisp and chewy at the same time - and it was time for another hit.

Sol Rio - a friendly welcome and great food - and don't just take my word for it,

they've a gazillion plaques on the wall, underscoring their foodie credentials

Amy, our lovely waitress, promised me the recipe and it duly arrived in my inbox. I've taken the liberty of transcribing the recipe for the domestic cook and adding the traditional method of moulding the pastry shell.

"FOR 12 HIGHLY ADDICTIVE "PAST'eIS DE NATA" YOU WILL NEED..."PUFF PASTRY500g cream flour250mls water pinch of salt 500g butter, softened and divided into 4 equal portions

1. TO MAKE THE PUFF PASTRY: In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine the flour, water and salt until it comes together in a dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll into a rectangle about 2.5cm (1 inch) thick.2. Spread one portion of softened butter over the pastry, leaving a margin about a finger's width all round. Fold the bottom third of the pastry in towards the centre, then fold the remaining third in to make a neat parcel. Brush off any excess flour and give the pastry a quarter turn. 3. Repeat step 2 until you have used up all the butter, making sure that every time you give the pastry a quarter turn that you are going in the same direction - helps give maximum rise.4. Once you have incorporated all the butter, refrigerate the pastry while you make the filling.

CUSTARD FILLING250mls creamzest of half a lemon - in strips rather than grated 160g caster sugar25g butter25g corn flour4 egg yolks1 whole egg

5. TO MAKE THE FILLING: place the cream and the lemon zest a heavy-based saucepan over a medium heat and bring to the boil. 6. Meanwhile place the sugar, butter and corn flour in a heatproof mixing bowl.7. When the cream has come to the boil, strain it into the mixing bowl, stirring to combine the ingredients. Turn the heat right down and transfer the mixture back into the saucepan.8. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks together with the whole egg. Slowly add half the cream mixture to the eggs, whisking all the time (WARNING: if you add the cold eggs to the hot cream you'll get sweet scrambled eggs - "bleagh"!).9. When you have combined approximately half the hot cream with the eggs, add this mixture to the remaining hot cream, whisking until well combined. Remove from the heat and leave to cool. Refrigerate until ready to assemble and cook the "Past'eis".

Using a sharp non-serrated knife, cut into 12 even slices and place, cut side down, in a 12-hole muffin tin (no need to butter the tin - the pastry has enough fat to stop it sticking). Using your thumbs, press the pastry out to line the tin, starting in the middle and working it up the sides. The pastry should be slightly thicker at the top.11. Fill with the cooled custard mixture, leaving a gap of about 1cm ( 1/2 inch) at the top. Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until a nice golden brown on top. Decorate with icing sugar or cinnamon. Finally, make sure to invite people over or you will probably end up scoffing the lot yourself!
